A plea for help (Update #2)

Posted on by - 17 Replies

Well… this is a bit awkward, isn’t it?

I guess I should start by introducing myself.

I am joletb and I create subtitles and video encodes, you might know me as the guy who runs Asenshi or also the guy who spends obscene amounts of hours on scenefiltering video encodes, but you probably know me from the former.

Now I didn’t expect for this to happen but as it turns out, my HDD seems to be slowly dying.
I mean, not only that but my entire PC has been really kinda on the brink of death for the past year or so.
Not surprising, considering it’s (almost) a decade old!
As such, I will probably need a replacement PC in the near future. You might now be asking yourself “But why don’t you get an actual job?”
Well, you see, it’s not really that easy. Especially when you deal with chronic pain almost daily and getting jobs has never been really harder.

Long story short, I need money for a new PC. Now the good thing is that I’ve already collected some money via the kindness of other fansubbers but I still need about $1200 $1000.
The reason I need that much money is not only because of the higher prices of GPUs but also because it’s getting shipped from another country and I need a PC that would be able to sustain me for a good 5-10 years. In that time, I will have likely found a job and would never need to ever do this again.

If you can spare any amount of money, it would mean the world to me, any amount helps.

Donation page

Current donation status: $1362 / $1000 (this counts all methods of donations)

Thank you for taking your time to read this.

UPDATE #1: I’ve got some good news!
I’ve managed to find all the parts locally as a prebuilt PC thus eliminating the need to pay for customs, save for the monitor, which still needs to be shipped.

Because of this, I’ve managed to shorten down the goal to $1000!

Also, I’d like to take this moment to thank everybody who has donated up till now, you guys are amazing!

UPDATE #2: Thanks to a very, very kind individual the amount has been met much earlier than expected, thus ending this donation campaign. However, I want to thank every single one of you who have pledged any amount of money to this. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to fully repay this but I’ll try by fansubbing a lot, I guess. You guys are all amazing and this would have never been possible without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me the chance to continue doing my passion.

(If you are somehow still pledging to the account, you can safely remove your pledge.)

  1. PC

While we’re at it. I need a new PC as well. I could need another 3.000$ for a new PC. That would be greatly appreciated. I will come up with a donation page. Stay updated.

Be as sarcastic and snarky as you may, I’m doing this so I’m able to keep fansubbing, not to just “get a new PC”

This is a build that will be more than adequate for fansubbing. The CPU comes with integrated graphics, so there’s no need to buy an expensive graphics card. Even with peripherals and shipping, the total cost should come way under your original budget of $1200. I’m not sure what your build consisted of to cost that much. For someone who basically has their hand out, you were being way too ambitious with your choices. If all you really wanted was a mid-performance gaming PC, then you should be outright with it next time.

Due to the nature of this job, I can’t. You can just cancel your patronage after a month has passed and the money has been transferred, though.

Seconding the one-time donation request. I don’t want to have to wait a month and try to remember to cancel.

It’s direct donation from me or nothing, sorry.

  2. Pikminiman

I am trying to donate, but Patreon is being a dick. I can’t get past the two-factor email authentication because they’re not sending me the verification emails. I submitted a support request, and I received a confirmation email from that immediately, so I know it’s not on my end. I’m not even new to Patreon. Will update.

  3. Potato

If you use cryptocurrency (such as Bitcoin), i can help. I don’t have credit/debit card or international money transfer account though.

    1. Potato

If you decide to accept cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin, simply post/update post with your Bitcoin address. Cheers!

  4. Money

When I don’t have enough money to buy something, I always ask money from my parent. My dad gives me almost anything I want, if I ask for 100 dollars then he would give it me directly. My mom does not, unless I beg her.

I do work, but my job has low salary. My apartment and food takes almost all my salary.

I don’t have a job as well so I don’t have the extra to spare to donate. Still a poor college student. If there was another chance in the future, I will gladly donate some of my funds. I’m sorry to hear about the situation, but hope it works out for the best. Best of luck, Joletb.

Am glad to hear things worked out for you ! Having just been given a new computer for work recently I can definitely empathize with the happiness from having a machine that can do the jobs you were doing before only significantly faster.

I look forward to seeing this group’s work in the Spring – Amanchu is one of my favorite things you all have done and Hisone looks to be good sleeper material.

    Congrats again. ^^
